Work on an exciting new home for Harlow Carr's beautiful collection of alpines is now complete and open to the public.
The history of alpines in Yorkshire is a long one. Harlow Carr's collection includes over 2000 different plants, and with many alpines under threat in their native habitats, Harlow Carr provides a valuable setting for the display of these inspiring plants.
The gardening team visited Johnsons Wellfield Quarries earlier this year during the early stages of the Alpine House project construction. They spent the day looking at how things are done in the world of quarrying in order to increase their knowledge and understanding of stone production.
Crosland Hill Yorkstone rockery and monoliths from Johnsons Wellfield Quarries have been utilised in the creation of the beautiful Alpine House.
