Highly commended by the Stone Federation Great Britain – Natural Stone Awards 1993 in the new build category. |
This strikingly designed building, in the heart of the West Yorkshire City of Bradford, was commissioned as part of the former PSA's Courts development programme of the late 1980's.
Architect Terry Greenwell was particularly keen to introduce a textured facing material to the bulk of the external façade, and to achieve this he specified 3,000 sq. meters of Johnson's Crosland Hill Hard York stone with a shot sawn finish. This was contrasted and complemented by fine rubbed ashlar feature bands, window surrounds and large diameter circular columns around the perimeter of the building, showing off the stone's character and versatility to great effect.
