Crosland Hill Hard York stone was used extensively on Wakefield's award winning Cathedral Precinct refurbishment scheme. Based on a design by Tess Jaray, an artist well known for her work on the much acclaimed Centenary Square in Birmingham, the imaginative project, led by Wakefield City Engineers, involved replacement of the walls along the side of the Cathedral with stone steps, lighting columns and shaped planters, and the creation of new grassed areas beside the building.
The result has provided Wakefield with a Cathedral precinct comparable with many in Europe's greatest cities, and Johnson's stone has helped in enhancing the City centre to the benefit of both it's people and businesses.
